Salzburg City - The Old Town (Max-Reinhardt Platz, Kapitelplatz, Residentplatz, Domplatz and Mozartplatz)

We explored the Old Town (Altstadt) by foot. All the important places are very close to each other and the best way to experience Altstadt hence is by walking. Close to the Neutor Tunnel is Hofstallgasse lane. The Salzburg Festival Halls (Festspielhauser) and few faculties of the University of Salzburg are located at this area. Within short walking distance, we reached the Max-Reinhardt Platz. We could see the Hohensalzburg Festung located on top of the Monchsberg Mountain from the Max-Reinhardt Platz. There are also horse carriages ('Fiaker') stationed next to the Festival Hall. This is the first time we saw horse carrieages queued up at the traffic light!


The Dom/Cathedral Building is stunning with high and beautiful dome. It was built between 1766 and 1771 by Johann Baptist Hagenauer. There is no entrance fee for the tourist to enter the building.


The Residenz Palace especially the State Room is definitely 'a must' to visit.





Salzburg Museum is small and does not have many artefacts. But we're really enjoyed the way the museum presents the history of Salzburg. All those mysterious doors, rooms and curtains that use as props are really unique and creative. We're always curious what historical stuffs behind those doors and rooms. Ooohh don't forget to use the toilet. It's spotless and the design is really modern!
